USL Championship
Birmingham v New Mexico
2.15 - 3.40 - 2.80
Get your USL weekend started with Birimingham v New Mexico. Played at a smaller venue than usual for the Legion, due to a scheduling conflict at Protective Stadium, the unique stadium will provide a closer setting for both clubs to contend with this week. Entering this match, New Mexico has been hot, winning their last four games across all competitions, and no defeats in any competition since May 20th (with five clean sheets in those eight games). Having last week off, Birmingham has not played since July 11th (USL Cup match) and will be looking for their first win in the league since May 2nd (eight matches ago in the league for the Alabama side). However, in that eight match winless run in the league, Birmingham did manage to score in six of those games (their previous six played entering this match)—boasting a BTTS - Yes hit rate of 67% entering this match, compared to New Mexico’s rate of 50%. While Birmingham has only been leading at halftime of one of their last nine games played, there has been six draws at half for the Legion, and five draws at halftime in New Mexico’s last eight played. The change venue I think will create a tough to predict atmosphere for both teams, so I’ll shy away from a fulltime wager for this match—even though these odds are enticing for New Mexico ML.
Bet 1: BTTS - Yes (1.61)
Bet 2: Draw at halftime (2.25)
Brooklyn v San Antonio
2.35 - 3.30 - 2.60
Maybe I need to pump the brakes a bit on the San Antonio hype I gave them last week. I had mentioned how quietly San Antonio has gone about their business this season in getting results, only for SAFC to throw away a halftime 1-0 lead to lose to Las Vegas 2-1. For Brooklyn, they were involved in another high-scoring 2-2 draw with Jacksonville this season, last week coming back from trailing 2-0 at halftime as well. Coming back home though, Brooklyn are looking for their first win in the league at home since April 11th (though there has only been three home games played in the league since then). However, would it be a bold take to say, I could see Brooklyn getting an “upset pick” in this match (even though the odds have them as favorites)? Perhaps my faith in San Antonio last week was misplaced and fading them this week might be the move? Both of these sides are averaging roughly around the 2.5 total goals mark this season, and looking at their first team to score stats has both team averaging a return of first goal in roughly the 40% range. However, San Antonio are the second best team in the league right now in halftime results (averaging 1.81 points per halftime scoreline this year), but I just could see Brooklyn getting a result from this game.
Bet: San Antonio win or draw halftime, Brooklyn win or draw fulltime (2.25)
Detroit v Las Vegas
1.57 - 3.75 - 4.75
Detroit at Keyworth continues to be an near unstoppable atmosphere for any club to enter, as DCFC made it six wins from seven home games this season last week with a 2-0 win over Indy Eleven. With just three goals allowed at home this season, “Detroit win to nil” has been a great prop bet for us this season’s DCFC home games. But can Las Vegas disrupt that trend? The Lights have won their last two road games in the league, with back-to-back wins across all competitions for the first time since June 2025. What did stand out to me when looking at this match was Las Vegas road games has seen a combined 33 total goals scored, and the Lights this season in the league have yet to be shutout on the road as well. But, they have not visited a venue quite like Keyworth, I’m picking Detroit to not only win, but give Las Vegas their first scoreless road game in the league this season.
Bet 1: Detroit win to nil (2.62)
Bet 2: Detroit halftime-fulltime (2.37)
Scoreline Bet: Detroit 2-0 Las Vegas (8.00)
Indy Eleven v Loudoun
1.66 - 3.70 - 4.00
On paper, this might be one of the more even fixtures of the weekend, when it likely should not be as close as I am thinking it might be. Loudoun was able to rescue a 1-1 draw with Tampa Bay last weekend as the side still searches for their second win in the league on the season, while Indy Eleven lost 2-0 away at Detroit last weekend, making it consecutive defeats in the league for the first time since October of last year. The reprieve for Indy Eleven is being back at home where they have yet to lose this season and across seven home games, have only conceded five goals—and when you are a Loudoun team with no wins in any of your last three road games, being outscored 9-3 in that span, that’s an encouraging sign for Indy Eleven as well. Backing the hosts to get back to winning ways and avoid losing three games in a row in the league for the first time since August 2025.
Bet: Indy Eleven ML (1.66)
Bet 2: Indy Eleven over 1.5 team goals, Indy Eleven win or draw at halftime (1.83)
Miami v Tampa Bay
4.33 - 3.70 - 1.61
Is this the biggest matchup of this Floridian Derby between Miami and Tampa Bay? Despite the former’s 2-0 defeat to Colorado Springs on Wednesday of this midweek, they have looked more competent this season than in years’ past, and for the latter, what more praise can we give to Dom Casciato’s Tampa Bay Rowdies that has not already been said? In spite of the Rowdies having a few “banter moments” in their struggles of previous seasons, much out of character to have challenges, they still manage to beat Miami in every meeting—they have not lost to Miami inside 90’ of play since April 2022 (or when Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (2022) was in theaters). That’s a ten match unbeaten run for Tampa Bay where they racked up nine wins since Miami last beat the Rowdies.
But can this time be different? Six of the last seven matches of this series hosted by Miami have seen BTTS/Over 2.5 total goals combinations, all matches won by Tampa Bay. When looking at BTTS - Yes hit rates for both teams this season, each of these sides are just a bit under 50% at the moment, with the average goals on either side of 2.5 (under for Tampa Bay, over for Miami) on the season. But these are rivalry games where anything can happen, and I believe Miami should be up for this match, but the Rowdies are still the Rowdies, and I’m picking the hosts to ultimately prevail in the end.
Bet 1: Tampa Bay ML (1.61)
Bet 2: Tampa Bay to score first, Tampa Bay ML first half (2.30)
Bet 3: BTTS - Yes/Over 2.5 total goals (2.20)
Pittsburgh v Rhode Island
2.55 - 3.10 - 2.45
A tale of two matches in the week that was for Pittsburgh last week. The Riverhounds went from handing Jacksonville their first win on the season on Wednesday, to scoring the fastest ever hat tricks in USLC history from Trevor Amann on Saturday in a 3-1 win over Louisville on CBS (their first win at home against Louisville as well). Rhode Island meanwhile picked up another derby day victory over Hartford last Saturday, their first clean sheet win in the league since April of this season. Both of these teams currently find themselves on the other side of where they might envision themselves ending the season—Pittsburgh a spot out of a home playoff game, Rhode Island just holding onto a playoff spot. Pittsburgh enter this match with four wins from their last five home games and I believe that plays a factor in this match tomorrow, especially since Pittsburgh have beaten Rhode Island in three of the four total games all-time played at FNB Stadium. The number of goals scored in this match is a tougher to predict angle since both teams are on either side of the 2.5 goals average this year (Rhode Island just below, Pittsburgh above). Sticking to a results wager in this one.
Bet 1: Pittsburgh to score first (2.05)
Bet 2: Pittsburgh win or draw first half, Pittsburgh ML (2.70)
Tulsa v Lexington
2.50 - 3.30 - 2.45
Are Lexington USLC’s most difficult to predict team at the moment? I feel like for every good result they put on the board (wins over Tampa Bay on July 4th, and more recently on Wednesday of this week, 2-0 win over Oakland), they still have a bad scoreline in them (losing 4-2 against neighbors Louisville and losing 4-1 against New Mexico). Still, the Kentucky club are in a playoff spot in the middle of the Summer, which is an upgrade over their standing of last season. Tulsa, while they have won two of their last three home games showing that ONEOK Field can still be a challenging venue on its day, have just those two wins in their last five games played. Less of a guarantee than they were last season, Tulsa have become more a coin flip’s chance on our wagers for them this season. Tulsa have led at halftime of each of their last three league games, well enough for the second best first half team in the West at the moment, but this Lexington I just have a bit more faith in at the moment to get the fulltime result.
Bet 1: Tulsa win or draw halftime, Lexington win or draw fulltime (2.37)
Bet 2: Tulsa to score first (2.00)
Colorado Springs v Charleston
2.15 - 3.40 - 2.75
For as tough a place to visit as Colorado Springs’ Weidner Field is, the club has not won three consecutive home matches since their run to the 2024 league title through the playoffs, but a victory over the Charleston Battery tomorrow would see the Switchbacks winning three games in a row at home for the first time since they last lifted silverware. In recent weeks, Colorado Springs have quietly moved back into the race for a home playoff game in the West, with three wins of their last five games played in the league. For Charleston, it’s been two matches in the league without a win and the Battery will be looking to avoid going three consecutive games in the league without a win for the first time since April. One concern I have for Charleston is their road form, which is just two wins from eight road games played in USLC matches, and a whopping 15 goals allowed away from home this year. All of that culminates in five defeats on the road this season—not to mention Charleston has not won either of their previous two visits to Colorado Springs since 2022.
This coincides with the Switchbacks being the second best team in the West at the moment in home games (only behind San Antonio). But, the Switchbacks have lost two of their last four home games played as well, so perhaps that is the opening the Battery need for this game. An astounding 11 matches (of 15 played) for Colorado Springs has been tied at halftime as well, which feels like a wager we should certainly do, but how well do you expect Charleston to do away from home will dictate your wager for this one.
Bet 1: Draw at halftime (2.30)
Bet 2: Colorado Springs to score first (1.80)
Bet 3: BTTS - Yes (1.61)
El Paso v Jacksonville
1.42 - 4.20 - 6.25
Are Jacksonville alive now? After beating Pittsburgh midweek last Wednesday, they followed that performance up with a 2-2 draw against Brooklyn on the weekend where they let three points slip away after leading 2-0 at halftime. To Jacksonville’s credit, it’s three matches unbeaten at the moment, and they have not been shutout in any of their last nine games played in the league (each game going BTTS - Yes and over 2.5 total goals of course). For El Paso, with just one win in their last eight games played across all competitions, this match really needs to be a win for me not to get worried about the Locomotive’s current state. From the start, this game should be BTTS - Yes and Over 2.5 total goals (both teams are averaging BTTS - Yes hit rates above 70% on the year, and each team’s total goals scored per match is above 3.0 as well). Surely this needs to be an El Paso win, especially for a fanbase that has not seen a home victory in the league since April 4th (which has given El Paso the worst home record in USLC league matches at the moment). There is a possibility, depending on results, that Locomotive could be just one point above last place in the West after this weekend, simply unthinkable for a team who opened the season winning four of their first five games played in the league.
Bet 1: BTTS - Yes, Over 2.5 total goals (2.00)
Bet 2: El Paso ML (1.42)
Monterey Bay v Orange County
2.10 - 3.30 - 2.90
A meeting of first in the West (Orange County) against the current bottom of the conference (Monterey Bay). Monterey Bay had a high-scoring, but ultimately heartbreaking, loss to Phoenix in the league last week while Orange County was able to rest idle during that matchweek. One stat standing out to me currently is that Orange County has just one defeat on the road this season in the league across 10 road games played—but Monterey Bay might not be so easily beaten now as they were at the start of the season as MBFC have won their last four home games played in the league as well (and have beaten Orange County in each of their last two visits away at Monterey Bay as well). You have to go back to April 2024 to find the last time Orange County beat Monterey Bay, and October 2023 the last time OC won away at MBFC. Could there be an angle in Monterey Bay getting a result in this match, or should we go with the sensible choice and pick Orange County? I think hosts might stick around with Orange County for a half, but I think Orange County do see out the result in the end.
Bet 1: Draw first half (2.20)
Bet 2: Orange County win or draw fulltime, Orange County to score first (2.20)
Possible sprinkle on BTTS - Yes for this match though (1.80 odds)
Oakland v Sacramento
2.37 - 3.20 - 2.70
The second of two California derbies on Saturday evening, arguably the more intriguing of the two as these two Northern California neighbors prepare to do battle in the heart of the Western Conference playoff picture. Sacramento last week were able to grind out a 1-1 draw with Charleston despite the man deficit they ended the match on, while Oakland sat idle last week. One possible lean towards Oakland’s favor this week is that Sacramento has won just one game away from home all season in the league (June 13th at Colorado Springs). However, Oakland are looking for their first home win since May 9th, having not won any of their five home games across all competitions since then—and that’s including a 1-0 win for Sacramento at the Coliseum in the USL Cup back on May 16th as well. Historically speaking, Republic has always seemed to have Oakland’s number as well, carrying an unbeaten streak of four consecutive games in this series entering this match. While Oakland has one of the higher BTTS - Yes hit rates in the league at the moment at 73%, I think if Oakland do get a result out of this one, it will be through a scoring draw. But there’s something about Sacramento in this series where it’s tough to count them out.
Bet: BTTS - Yes, Sacramento win or draw (2.40)
Phoenix v Hartford
1.83 - 3.50 - 3.60
Phoenix needed that win last week over Monterey Bay, to end a six match winless skid across all competitions. While they are still occupying a playoff spot at the moment, the slip down the table had become a point of concern for me. Meanwhile Hartford found themselves on the familiar end of a derby day match against Rhode Island, losing 1-0 on the road. Having to follow-up that tough contest with a trip across the country to the desert to play Phoenix. However, Hartford are the East’s second best road team this season, taking on Phoenix who’s performances at home this season have been rather hit and miss. When looking at the stats, Hartford have been averaging under 2.0 total goals per game this season and their BTTS - Yes hit rate is the lowest in USLC at the moment at 27%. Not to mention in the three previous meetings of these clubs all-time, Phoenix has not lost to Hartford in any of those games.
Bet 1: Phoenix ML (1.83)
Bet 2: Phoenix to score first, Hartford under 1.5 team goals (1.95)
USL1
Charlotte v Richmond
1.38 - 4.50 - 6.00
Well these last two games have not gone as expected for Charlotte lately. It was a tough 4-2 loss to Chattanooga last weekend, only to follow it up with a bad 3-0 defeat against Spokane (albeit a tough place to visit) on Wednesday of this midweek. It’s the first time that the Independence have lost back-to-back games in the league since April, and the first time since the end of last season that they have gone three matches without a win. However, there might not be a better team to face in USL1 when you are low on confidence, than the Richmond Kickers at the moment. Richmond are off of a loss to Spokane as well (2-0 last weekend) and have not scored a goal in the league in the last 5.5 hours—or nearly enough time to watch the first three movies of the Star Trek: The Original Series cast (Motion Picture, Wrath of Khan, and Search for Spock) in their entirety. Richmond also did not score in either of their two visits to the Queen City last season as well, with the Independence having scored multiple goals against Richmond in each of their last three games played (all Charlotte wins too).
If the Independence do not win this game, I would be rather curious as to how the team has fallen off in these recent weeks, but I expect Charlotte to get it right in this game against a hapless Richmond team.
Bet 1: Charlotte -1.5 spread (1.975)
Bet 2: Over 2.5 total goals (1.44)
Chattanooga v Knoxville
2.20 - 3.30 - 2.80
A Smokey Mountain, Tennessee derby matchday tomorrow night! This series has been characterized by dominance for the home team, with the home side avoiding defeat in each of the last seven meetings of this series. Furthermore, these games are always tightly contested with seven of the last eight meetings of Knoxville and Chattanooga going under 2.5 total goals (50% of games being BTTS - No as well). Despite the loss to AV Alta last week, Knoxville are still a talented team, and Chattanooga looked much more like the Scott McKenzie team we are used to seeing with their 4-2 win over Charlotte last week as well.
I think this is my game to watch of the weekend in USL1 and Knoxville have not been trailing at halftime of any of their last six games played, though Chattanooga has only been behind at half in one of their last ten games played. While both teams are averaging over 2.5 total goals this season in matches, I just get the feeling we are following the historical trends and this game will be low-scoring much like the recent contests of this series. Should be a fun, compelling fixture to watch!
Bet 1: Draw halftime-Draw fulltime (5.50)
Bet 2: Under 2.5 total goals (1.85)
Bet 3: Chattanooga 1-1 Knoxville correct scoreline bet (7.00)
NY Cosmos v Boise
3.50 - 3.70 - 1.80
I’m back fading the NY Cosmos again, after the side took a heavy 3-0 defeat to neighbors Westchester on Wednesday, and especially so with Boise coming to town. Boise are off of a massive 2-1 come from behind win over Portland last Friday. It’s three wins from their last four games played for Boise entering this match as well, while the Cosmos are just one win their last eleven games played. While Boise’s road form might be a bit of cause for concern (just two road wins this year, each by a score of 1-0), the Cosmos’ recent home form has seen the club shutout in two of their last three games at Hinchcliffe Stadium (and having failed to score multiple goals at home in each of their last four home games). I believe Boise should win this one, but I question how many goals they could manage against the league’s worst defense. Going with a simple wager on this one (maybe it should be draw no bet though…).
Bet: Boise ML (1.80)
Madison v Naples
1.60 - 3.90 - 4.33
It is full fade time for Naples, as the Floridian club have lost their last eight games in a row across all competitions, including be shutout in four of those games played. What was a semifinal playoff appearance for Naples last season, has simply not gone to plan this year after a change of manager. Naples finds themselves nine points out of a playoff spot currently, and nine points behind their opponents this week in Madison. Madison meanwhile are unbeaten in their last six games played across all competitions, including five wins in that run and are fresh off a derby day win over Richmond 4-0 a little over a week ago. Simply put, I do not see the current poor run of form for Naples ending anytime soon, and given the form Madison are on currently, it would be foolish not to back them in this match. Going heavy on Madison in this one.
Bet 1: Madison halftime/fulltime (2.40)
Bet 2: Over 2.5 total goals (1.75)
Bet 3: Madison -1.5 spread (2.50)
Corpus Christi v Greenville
2.05 - 3.40 - 3.00
Draws have been a specialty of Corpus Christi in the league this year as they picked up their seventh draw on the season, making them currently the only club with more draws than wins in the league this year as it stands. For Greenville, they have been a club tough to predict on a given week, just when you think the side has a result that’s turned around their form (like 3-0 over the Cosmos earlier in the month), they’ll put out a scoreline that makes me worried for them again, which was the case last week with a 3-0 defeat away at Fort Wayne. Greenville also only has one win on the road this season, while CCFC are unbeaten in their last six home games in the league (four of those games going BTTS - Yes). In four of those six home games, Corpus Christi also scored the opening goal as well. Not sure if I am entirely confident on the hosts to walk away as winners of this match, but the Triumph are struggling away from home this year that I am willing to take a chance given these odds.
Bet 1: Corpus Christi ML (2.05)
Bet 2: Corpus Christi to score first (1.80)
Spokane v Fort Wayne
1.80 - 3.50 - 3.75
Just like that, my possible worries over fading Spokane, have vanished a bit, as the Velocity have won two consecutive games and moved back into a home playoff spot for the time being (and have a massive 3-0 win over Charlotte on Wednesday as well). Fort Wayne picked up a 3-0 win themselves last time out, against Greenville last weekend. Both of these teams are a game or less in terms of points above the playoff cutline at the moment. While Fort Wayne’s road record has been perfectly balanced (as all things should be…as Thanos would say) at 3-3-3 (with 11 goals for and allowed), Spokane’s home record is the best in USL1 at the moment (8 wins and 2 defeats). Getting to Spokane makes this one of the most difficult away days in USL1 for any visiting team, and that might play a factor for Fort Wayne in this match (even if they beat Spokane 3-0 on July 4th recently). The visitors might very well find a goal, and Spokane did have those two home defeats come within their last four home games (where they outshot Madison and Knoxville only to lose both games by a combined score of 5-0). If Fort Wayne can be defensively stout, they have a chance, but I think I still have to side with the hosts here.
Bet 1: Spokane ML (1.80)
Bet 2: Over 2.5 total goals (1.72)
AV Alta v Westchester
1.80 - 3.70 - 3.40
Close out your USL1 evening with this cross country battle of Westchester making the trek to California to take on AV Alta. As discussed on The USL Show this week, AV Alta’s 3-2 win away at Knoxville last week might have been the result I needed to be truly convinced by this team. While their nine-match unbeaten run in the league was impressive in its own right, I kept waiting for this AV Alta team to run into a top quality side of the league, but between Omaha, Charlotte and Knoxville, they’ve taken four points against those top three teams of the league in the month of July. It’s brought AV Alta to just one point behind Spokane for the top four, and two points behind Charlotte for the top three. I think I can officially say I have been more convinced of AV Alta now. Westchester meanwhile ended their four game winless run with a massive derby day victory over the NY Cosmos on Wednesday, 3-0 (their largest margin of victory in a match where they also recorded a shutout since June 14th).
The story of this game for me is that Westchester are still searching for their first road win of the season in the league and have allowed 17 goals in their eight road games this season (three of those games being 1-0 scorelines, with Westchester shutout in five road games this year). If AV Alta can score the opening goal (something they have only done with 39% hit rate this season), that might be enough to see out the result for the hosts.
Bet 1: AV Alta ML (1.80)
Bet 2: AV Alta 2-0 Westchester correct scoreline wager (11.00)

Final Thoughts
For some infrequent Marvel thoughts: X-Men ‘97 has been in an excellent second season and has been moving at a quick pace in its story. With just three episodes to go in the season, I am excited to see how this season reaches its conclusion, especially since it has been green-lit for a fourth season (and has ambitions for possibly ten seasons!). The newest Avengers: Doomsday trailer looked interesting. While I am still a bit more cautiously optimistic for the film, this trailer did a lot to convince me it will be good come December. Lastly, super excited to watch Spider-Man: Brand New Day next week!
In other watches lately, Jon Bois of Secret Base has been doing an excellent series this summer on “The History of Charging the Mound” and the latest episode six might be the best one of the series so far!
I surpassed 300 total miles run in 2026 this morning, which is well ahead of the pace of miles run in a calendar year than where I was at this point in 2025. With a goal of at least 35 miles run every month, it has been a very good year of running thus far!
