Previous Week Recap:
Here are the bets that paid off from last week’s article:
Hartford v Monterey Bay over 2.5 goals (1.57), Indy Eleven to win BTTS and over 2 total goals (4.00), New Mexico to win or tie BTTS (2.05), Madison to win (1.90), Chattanooga v Lexington BTTS, Tormenta v Richmond over 2.5 goals (1.53),
Elo Ratings:
USL Championship:
Hartford v Rhode Island
2.35 - 3.40 - 32.55
It’s a meeting of two New England clubs from neighboring states in their first ever derby match, and it’s a game both sides need to win for more reasons than one. Rhode Island have started the year oddly, four clean sheets each in a 0-0 result, but have struggled to find the back of the net on 10 goals. Hartford have similarly struggled offensively, but have leaked 21 goals on the season, the second most in the East this year. This match is a tough one to predict result wise, but I could see a low-scoring under 2.5 goals bet worth taking.
Bet: Under 2.5 goals (2.15)
Loudoun v Tulsa
2.00 - 3.60 - 2.90
In the four all-time meetings of this series, the home team has never lost and each of those games had featured over 2.5 goals (three of those games featured over 3.5 goals). For me, the key to this match is which of these teams decide to show up and perform this week. Tulsa have lost their last two games in the league on aggregate of 0-6, while Loudoun have won their last two games in the league on aggregate of 5-0.
Bet: Loudoun win or tie, BTTS (2.10)
Miami v Louisville
6.00 - 3.90 - 1.44
Weirdly, Miami has held their own against Louisville historically, beating the Kentucky outfit on two occasions, including their most recent meeting. However, Miami have not kept a clean sheet since the opening match of the season and have not won a game in a month’s time, having gone their last four matches in a row winless and with one goal scored in that time. It’s tough to bet spreads in USL historically, but I’d back Louisville to win by 2 or more goals here.
Bet: Louisville to win by 2 or more (2.20)
Pittsburgh v Indy Eleven
1.90 - 3.40 - 3.40
Indy Eleven have been on a hot streak of six matches unbeaten in USLC play, dating back to April 20th. The Indiana club also booked their spot in the US Open Cup quarterfinals last week as well. However, games at Highmark Stadium this year have been challenging to forecast, particularly since those games have only involved 7 total goals, the fewest seen by any stadium in the league thus far. If Indy Eleven are to continue their winning run, they’ll need to breakdown a Bob Lilley stifling defense.
Bet: Indy Eleven win or tie, under 3 total goals (2.75)
Colorado Springs v Oakland
1.60 - 3.50 - 5.00
An odd trend about this series, the five all-time meetings between these two clubs has never seen the home side win the match, four of the five matches saw the visitors win. However, Oakland, who won last week away at Tulsa, have not won back to back road games since August 2023—and have not won back to back road games played consecutively since July 2023. Colorado Springs have conceded multiple goals in a match only once this year, the season opener against Detroit in March, and are unbeaten in their last five league games.
Bet: Colorado Springs win or tie, Oakland to score exactly one goal (2.75)
El Paso v Birmingham
2.20 - 3.40 - 2.80
The Wilmer Cabrera tenure at El Paso began last week with a surprising 2-1 win over one of the league’s best teams in the Charleston Battery—who had a red card in the match that had impacted that result. Still, it is only El Paso’s second win on the season and a result that might spur them forward. They welcome the Birmingham Legion on Saturday, with one crucial stat for this season for Birmingham being only once have they scored multiple goals in a USLC match this season and won—the April 7th 3-1 win over Loudoun. Birmingham need to find a way past that stat to win on Saturday, especially given that their opponents have not won a match at home since September 30th, 2023 (also strangely, a result against Charleston).
Bet: BTTS (1.72)
San Antonio v Memphis
2.00 - 3.40 - 3.20
San Antonio have quietly gone their last four games in the league without a win, a streak of patchy form that has seemed to carry over from the end of the 2023 season into this year. Memphis meanwhile have won four of their last five games in the league, and has scored multiple goals in each of those last five games. Memphis has the chance to pile on the misery here for San Antonio
Bet: Memphis to score over 1 goal (2.62)
Orange County v Detroit
2.10 - 3.10 - 3.10
Detroit are having to lick their wounds after a 5-1 defeat away at Louisville City on Wednesday. Conceding five goals, their most ever since their 5-0 defeat to Phoenix in September 2023 is tough to follow in their next game. The trip across the country so closely following that match is a challenge. While I like these odds on Detroit to win in a vacuum, there may be more to be won on a win or tie bet for a safer option.
Bet: Detroit to win or tie (1.57)
Sacramento v Tampa Bay
2.10- 3.25 - 3.00
This might be the USLC match of the weekend, USL After Dark with it’s 10:00pm start time. These teams have combined for 9 clean sheets on the season, with Sacramento having one of the league’s best defenses having allowed just 8 goals all year—as well as being the league’s last remaining unbeaten team. Across all competitions this year, Tampa Bay have played 13 games—11 USLC and 2 USOC—and their last five games across all competitions have been at home. You have to go back to August 18, 2023 to find the last time Tampa Bay won a regular season USLC match West of the Mississippi River (2-1 win v Tulsa).
Bet: Draw (3.25)
Las Vegas v Phoenix
2.75 - 3.40 - 2.25
On the 17 all-time meetings of these two desert clubs, ten of those games saw both teams find the back of the net, including some absolute classics, such as a nine goal thriller from 2021 that saw Phoenix run out as 6-3 winners. Or the crazy 3-3 draw in 2020 that saw three goals scored past 90’. This match could have the makings of another goalfest, with the sportsbooks actually giving Las Vegas a better chance that I would have thought, at winning here.
Bet: BTTS, Over 2 goals (2.00)
Sunday, June 2nd
Monterey Bay v New Mexico
2.25 - 3.60 - 2.55
A perfectly balanced series all-time, two wins apiece and two draws between these clubs. Five of those games saw both teams score and three of the games all-time were over 2.5 goals. The visiting team has never won a match of this series, and the side who scores first has won three times in this series. However, dating back to the start of April, New Mexico United have only lost once, recording five league wins in that time. Meanwhile Monterey Bay are looking for their first win since April 20th, having gone, having gone two draws and four losses in that time.
Bet: New Mexico to win (2.55)
USL1:
Madison v Lexington
1.75 - 3.60 - 3.75
Madison has been riding a wave of four consecutive wins in USL1 league and cup play, but it was Lexington in the Jagermeiester Cup to hand Madison their last defeat, 1-0 in Kentucky. However, Madison in USL1 league play, are still unbeaten and I imagine they will not want a repeat of the last time they played Lexington
Bet: Madison to win (1.75)
Charlotte Independence v Tormenta
2.00 - 3.80 - 2.87
Historically, this fixture has produced goals at both ends of the pitch, with the last five matches having been both teams to score. Charlotte has scored this season despite our questions on if they can make it work long term on the USL Show, but have only won one of their last six games against USL1 opposition. Tormenta have not won in Charlotte since 2022, but I imagine this match is one that follows its history with another set of multiple goals.
Bet: Over 2.5 goals (1.53)
Knoxville v Richmond
1.70 - 3.40 - 4.33
Three all-time meetings between these clubs has resulted in three draws. In league play, Knoxville’s defense has been the best in USL1, allowing just three goals, one of which however was scored by Richmond. This match might be the toughest one to call in USL1 this weekend, but it would a pure sicko bet to see this series reach a fourth consecutive draw.
Bet: Draw (3.40)
Omaha v Northern Colorado
1.80 - 3.40 - 3.80
Northern Colorado has been a weird bogey team of sorts for Omaha in the past, or at least a side that has given Omaha fits at times. Five of the eight all-time meetings between these clubs have seen the Hailstorm score multiple goals in the game. Northern Colorado has yet to win against this club in Omaha, however the club has been finding their scoring boots as of late, having scored 11 goals in their last five games against USL1 clubs.
Bet: Northern Colorado win or tie, under 3 goals (3.25)
Sunday, June 2nd
Greenville v Chattanooga
No odds as of writing
The last four games of this series had seen both teams score and on three occasions, over 3.5 goals in that time. In those last four games between these two teams, each side has picked up a 5-1 home victory. In the 2024 season, Greenville have yet to lose a match at home this year.
Bet: Greenville to win
